What is an Optos scan?

This machine is a more detailed and accurate version of a ‘normal’ eye scanner.

Whilst it cannot reach the real outer limits of the eye itself. It will scan 80% of the eye. Whereas others have a scan reach of around 15%.

Nothing touches your eye at any time. To have the exam, you simply look into the device one eye at a time (like looking through a keyhole) and you will see a flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken.

A Red, blue then green image appears. When the green image appears. That will then flash once brightly to take the image of inside your eye digitally.

Under normal circumstances, dilation drops might not be necessary, but your eye care practitioner will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on the health of your eyes. The image capture takes less than a half-second.

Eye test check up

My local Boots opticians

A letter has come from Boots. I last went there for an eye test in July 2020. They told me to come for yearly check ups from now on.

I will see what is going on first with my eyes when I visit the hospital this week.

Then I will book an appointment afterwards. I’m reckoning Boots Opticians may think I will become a good customer ☺

I won’t be surprised if I need new reading glasses. I’ve touched on this subject in recent posts.

This may seem an inconsequential thing to blog about. But, I’m treating this blog like a diary of events to track my own progression throughout this condition.

Please remember. Everyone’s progression with this condition will be faster, slower, earlier or later. This has taken me 6 years to get to the point I’m currently at. Everyones life with this condition will be similar, but different.
